As we get closer to the 9th anniversary of 9/11 we are forced to take pause and reflect on the events of the past several months. As well as a certain planned event for Saturday. Being agnostic I clearly see the folly on both sides of this issue. Being a human being of reasonable intelligence I clearly see the wrongness in burning holy text. Not from a religious stand point, but from a humanitarian View Point. The idea is clear Mr. Jones is sending a direct message to Muslims that their religion is not tolerated here. Whatever Jones says he can not hide the intent of burning the Qur’an. He claims that he not speaking to the moderate Muslims, but to those extremists that attacked us on 9/11. That doesn’t fly. By burning their holy text you are speaking to every Muslim. And that is unacceptable. And it is equally unacceptable to provoke violence from those you know can be provoked into violence. While he will enrage the moderate he most likely will not get a violent response. But his words, he is taunting the extremists. And that makes his actions premeditated. And as he has the constitutional right, as a self-proclaimed man of God he has a greater responsibility towards peace and humanity. I do not fear his actions will bring retaliation here. It’s not the solders I fear for, though they will be the most likely targets. It’s the Christian population throughout the middle east. Jordan, Syria, Libya, Lebanon, Iran, Iraq, Palestine. These are the ones Terry Jones is willing to put in harm’s way to prove Islamic extremists can be pushed into acts of violence. And those of you who call yourselves American and Christian are willing to step back and allow radical extremists kill innocent people, in order to justify your intolerance of Islam. Terry Jones Responsibilities to the words and teachings of Jesus, should outweigh his constitutional right and his own deep prejudice and intolerance.
Honor by definition is “That which rightfully attracts esteem, respect, or consideration self-respect dignity courage fidelity especially excellence of character high moral worth; virtue nobleness” As the weekend of “Non Political” rallies wind down in DC this weekend I was left a bit puzzled. First of all Honor isn’t something you can give freely. Honor like respect and trust has to be earned. It’s through your actions and your words that make you honorable or dishonorable. My other concern is regardless if you’re in Beck’s audience or not the fact is he is just a media mouthpiece, and whether or not you agree with the message or not, he is paid to speak the minds of those that fill his coffers. What Glen Beck fails to identify, or maybe he does, and hopes we all see past it, is that to be honorable, you have to be so all the time. And that means the truth. When we distort the truth is a lie. If we spin the truth its a lie. There is no gray area here. And one of the key fundamental problems in this country is we expect our politicians and media mouth pieces to lie to us, then we excuse the lie, or condemn the lie all based on our personal ideologies. To be honorable you must always speak and act on the side of what is right, even if you do not agree, especially if you do not agree. The man who can see past his own prejudices and do right, that is what honor means. To choose only that which agrees with you, even knowing that at the heart of it, you are wrong, well this is dishonor. And that leads me back to the controversy of the mosque near ground zero. While both sides are scrambling daily to come up with new ammunition to hurl at one another I am going to stick to my original argument and beat that dead horse into the ground, as it is the only argument needing to be addressed. And that is beyond everything, is the right of private ownership. The land on which this intended community center will be built on is rightfully owned by American Citizens. And as American Citizens they have the right of ownership. We may not like it but it is right. It is the truth. And the only Honorable thing to do is honor what is right. How many more freedoms and rights must we sacrifice as a whole to sooth the fears and discomforts of a few? By carrying on the fight against the mosque based solely on intolerance and ignorance and distorted facts is by nature the dishonorable thing to do. So just who is Glen Beck restoring honor for? My honor is intact I will always find the right path, and will not be swayed or guided by dishonorable men. Is it for the people? Those loyal listeners that hang on your every word? How can you restore honor for them? This is something they each need to do for themselves. And it begins with the realization that honor can not be achieved through the infliction of other people regardless of the cultural and religious differences. And the whole controversy centering all of this is nothing short of dishonorable. With terms distorting the truth like, Mosque at Ground Zero, 9/11 victory mosque. These are terms meant to sensationalize it and make it news worthy, but they are dishonorable lies. Meant to inflame and call to arms like-minded people. Who by design would be offended by these statements. And in their fear trepidation and intolerance, do not look any deeper into this beyond the inflaming words spread by dishonorable people. My advice to Glen Beck would be to work on restoring your own honor, the rest of us have to worry about ourselves.
In response to some of the hateful email’s I received over my post, “The Self Reliant American” I must have hit a cord with some ultra conservatives. And I usually don’t care what other people say, and well I still don’t care, it just gives me something to blog about. I’ve been called a hippy, an environmentalist, a liberal, etc. Yeah OK whatever I never really identify with a label or a closed off philosophy. I have also been called a leaching worthless determent to society. And that I have to refute, I spent over 22 years contributing to that society. These days, I contribute as little as possible, and take back even less. As I read about 15 comments all so hurtful that I had to remove them, not because of any personal attacks on my character or lifestyle, but for the attacks on whole groups of people who I have been unfairly grouped into. Unfair to me as well as those that do Identify with, the liberals, and the gays, and the Muslims. Thats when it dawned on me. These attacks are motivated by fear. Its fear that drives the debate against the mosque in New York. And do you all really want to set a president, of special interest controlling the rights of land owners? Are you prepared to have a church construction challenged like this? How much more of your freedoms are you going to sacrifice to your fears? How many more wars do we have to endure to appease your fears? And where does this irrational fear of everything come from? It comes from a generations of people raised under the threat of global annihilation by nuclear war. Our leaders pushed an agenda of fear, and we grew up under that blanket of fear, And being fearful makes it so much easier for them to pass laws like the patriot act, and openly spying on Americans on American soil. By instilling fear, and then dividing you against each other, it makes all that much easier for them to control you, and little by little they slowly take more and more of your rights away from you. And by the time you figured it all out, it’s far too late. There is nothing left for you to do but conform. When you break it all down there are really only two kinds of people on this planet. Those that live life, and those that run from it. If you run now, you will be running forever, and then everything you do, say and think will be ruled and controlled by that fear.
President Obama weighed in on the growing controversy over the so-called ground zero mosque. Saying “As a citizen, and as president, I believe that Muslims have the same right to practice their religion as everyone else in this country,” And whether you like it or not he is right. For Christians to be allowed to continue their religious freedoms, those Christians must allow everyone else the right to do the same. I have watched this story closely for some time now and just as with gay rights, there is no reason to oppose this other than simple hate and intolerance. But whats fueling all this hate, racism and intolerance towards Muslims? Especially from a group who claim to be above and beyond this behavior. The biggest source of the hatred and intolerance is being spread by Rush Limbaugh and Glenn Beck. There are so many things wrong in our world today and a lot of that is being reverberated throughout the Idiocracy by these two clowns. There is no real reason why this mosque should not be built where it’s being built. No reasons other than those based on intolerance and racism. If that is not how you see it then tell me where I am wrong. From where I am sitting a movement against this mosque is suing them in order to keep them from building. In other words they are suing to take first amendment rights away from them. That is not only wrong that is UnAmerican. And few are as UnAmerican as Rush Limbaugh and Glenn Beck. As these two have made a living of hiding behind the first amendment you would think they would understand, a true American defends those freedoms unwaveringly. Even if you don’t personally agree. Beck and Limbaugh use and abuse the 1st amendment, and then try to deny to other Americans. Its time that Rush and Glen just packed their bags and left. If we get rid of all the traitor racists and hypocrite religions in this country, the rest of us sensible people will be able to focus on fixing the mess we find ourselves in.
I say distant because I don’t follow either faith. But I am not blind to the obvious. So lets talk about this planned Islamic Mega Mosque being planned at ground zero. Pushing the opposition is self-described conservative blogger Pamela Geller. When I first started looking into this I thought it was a joke. But alas it is true. A group called Cordoba is planning the project as I write. Well lets clear up two misconceptions, One the mega mosque will be a community center, more than mosque, and two it’s not being built at ground zero, its being built 2 blocks away, given the average New York city block is about 264 feet, the mosque will be about 528 feet, so whats the serious problem here? I thought I would catch up with the other side and find out what their objections were? I started at the primary source Pamela Geller’s blog. Look I tried to make some sense out of this from both vantage points and it is clear, in her own words Pamela Geller simply does not like Muslims. Here’s the thing, Miss Geller by her own admission after 9/11 began to immerse herself to gain full understanding, of Islam, Jihad, and terror. Here lies the whole problem, Miss Geller never set out to learn about Islam, she set out to destroy it. let me give you a little tip, when a person opens an argument with the statement I’m not racist, a very racist comment will always follow. The proof is evident, Miss Geller, and all those people who spoke out against this mosque spoke out in hatred and intolerance. How many times have we heard the argument, Christians could never get away with something like this in Muslim Countries? While it is for the most part a true statement, let me just say this. This is not one of those Countries, this is America, We are not a Christian Nation, we are a nation of Religious Freedom. The constitution guarantee’s that religious freedom. And to deny that Religious freedom to anyone, and in the next breath have audacity to call the President a Socialist. Well if Obama is a socialist, I would rather live under his kind of socialism, that Pamela’s Geller’s Brand of Nazism. What’s next Pam Japanese style internment camps for all non Christians? But the problem doesn’t lie with Pam Geller alone. A great many conservative Christians can not hide their open seething hatred for all Muslims, and this is kinda funny, and here’s why. The conservative will always resort to pointing out the evils of Islam, meaning the 3% of the extremists who actually do what to kill Americans. And here’s the punchline, Those conservatives, like Pam Geller are in that same 3% . My favorite argument against this Mosque and Muslims in general is the fear of them converting Christian children. Are you kidding me? Every organized Christian Church has its own missionaries, actively seeking out and converting anyone they can. So what if you lose a few to Islam, at the end of the day what should it matter to anyone, where anyone of any faith builds their churches and community center? Seems to me the only thing this center is provoking is Miss Geller’s personal prejudice, and Intolerance.
I try to stay out of these religious basis conversations, however recent articles and conversations has led me back to the keyboard. The question is why does faith always lead to intolerance? before I start blasting on faith let me explain my position, I am not an Atheist, an Atheist must know more that I do. However I will not accept a book, collection of oral histories from many different cultures over a vast period of time, as being the one true word of God. While I don’t label myself as Faithful, I do believe in a designed order of the universe. And no you are not the center of it. So I have to ask myself why do those of faith show so much intolerance? Just the other day as I was scanning through a faith-based story on the internet, I also scan the comments. One comment in particular caught my attention, the poster was crying foul over all the “Atheists” judging Christians, the christian then cites the bible on passing judgment. Typical Christian response. The Christian then closes with all non believers will burn, etc. Hmmm, he displays anger at being judged, then closes by passing judgment. The hypocrisy of faith is immeasurable and the damage it has caused is irreparable. It was faith in God that lead Jim Jones and his followers into mass suicide. It was faith in God that drove David Koresh and his branch Davidian suicide. The faith in God was behind every lynching, in this country. Faith of God rests in every war and atrocity the U.S. has ever committed. Faith in God drives the greed and power of the corrupt church. Faith in God drives Fred Phelps to protest funerals of fallen soldiers. Faith in God gives Phelps the right to spread hate and intolerance. Faith of God drives men like Phelps to slander God. Faith in God feeds hate intolerance and exclusion. Faith in God leads us to only more pain, more sorrow and more greed. A world with out God is a world closer together.
The other day I found myself in a conversation with a few friends. CNN had just ran its hourly quota of gulf news coverage. That coverage sparked a debate amongst us about environmental disasters, which ultimately ran into climate change. I’ll call my friends Steve and Rick. Both are moderately conservative and both moderately religious. I only say that because even their moderate religious beliefs play an instrumental role in their political, social and environmental views. Steve begins the debate by saying that crude is just a necessary evil we have to contend with in order to maintain our way of life. Now this is a big deal, wars have been fought, just to maintain ‘Way of Life’ Steve then goes on to ask of us, “Do we just throw away 50 years of technology simply because some scientists say what we’re doing is wrong?” And Steve’s point is that not all environmental scientists agree with man-made climate change. And as Steve pointed out, that just the Iceland’s Eyjafjoell volcano is emitting more co2 daily than all the S UV’s in the world. And that is true. It is also true that the oceans contain over 34,000 gigatonnes of carbon. On top of the 2,000 3,000gts of co2 in the biomass. So with humans contributing a paltry 26gt. This opens it up for Rick to jump in. No surprise to me that Rick backs up Steve with another interesting fact. Global Warming is happening all over the solar system. So that would imply the sun has more to do with our climate change than anything we do. And again I can’t argue that. Its true the sun goes through 11-15 year cycles called solar maximum, and most likely a great contributor to Climate Change. SO now it was my turn. I first addressed Steve’s misinformed information about the need for oil. There are no such things as necessary evils. And we do not need crude oil for anything at all. The more than 25,000 products made from crude, can be made just as easy and a lot cheaper from hemp. The reason it isn’t is a matter of simple greed. And the Oil lobbyists makes sure the moral compass in America points away from hemp. Now for the front line assault. While I have to concede that their points are valid, they really didn’t think their argument out so well. Lets accept that Eyjafjoell does emit more co2 daily than all the S UV’s that still doesn’t account for the other 300 million vehicles on the road. And as far as the vast amounts of CO2 released by nature as compared by man. Remember the natural cycles of release and absorptions are regulating by nature. Yes there are periods where the earth releasing more co2 than it can absorb, however those always follow periods of light release and the rate of absorption is able to regulate the CO2 levels. When we add to that, we are heavily contributing to the imbalance. And we continue to do this right through each Solar Maximum. So each period of natural imbalance is being further imbalanced by our actions. Which is why the co2 is at levels not seen in 800,000 years. While on the surface it may not seem like we are contributing all that much, what we are contributing is upsetting the balance. Why can’t we make the switch back to hemp based products and fuels? The answer came to me from another friend in a completely different conversation. People can no longer tell the difference between actual needs and instant gratification.
After 48 hours of testing the new experimental cap seems to be holding back all the oil from gushing into the Gulf. Thats good news. But not we’re not out of the woods yet. The danger now is the fear of pressure building up behind the cap and blowing out the pipe under the sea floor. Making it near impossible to find and cap. But for now lets take a collective moment and just thank the powers that be, that for now there is no more oil flowing into the Gulf. Giving us just a little more peace of mind. And now that the largest environmental disaster in U.S. history is contained we all want to know whose ass do we kick? We start with BP. They ignored tons of warning signs from both their employees and their contractors. BP was far from truthful in their scope of the disaster and their ability to contain it. Not to mention that BP permit only allowed them to drill down to 18,500 ft. BP drilled to about 30,000 ft. Then we have the inspectors and government officials who didn’t know what was going on because they didn’t want to know. The government deregulated the industry. Pretty much begged BP to drill, and then turned a blind eye to the possibilities of a blow out. The same tired argument is playing out here that played out with the Exxon Valdez disaster. The probability we will see another disaster like this again is very small. Anyone know how many more tankers have ruptured their hulls and spilled their oil since the Exxon? It’s a lot more than a few. So why is this allowed to continue? Simple the offending parties are the Big Oil Industry and the Big government Industry of the Republicans. How can we be 100% sure nothing like this will ever happen again? We can’t, the Government can’t guarantee it neither can the Oil companies. But we can if we just stop drilling. I mean we have to be the Dumbest most ignorant Society in all the annals of history. I mean we extract the oil from the ground. Which alone costs tens of millions of dollars in man hours and equipment to accomplish. And we’re told we can’t live without it. Again Hemp has always been that wonder plant. The Hemp plant can be used to make over 25,000 products that are currently being produced with crude. This includes lubricants, fuel and most importantly plastics. Both the Biodegradable and non biodegradable kinds. Not to mention the plastic can also be made into high density plastic and can replace steel in many applications. The sad truth is crude replaced hemp in all these applications, nearly a hundred years ago. Why? Greed plain and simple. We can’t wait another 50 years, or until we completely deplete all the fossil fuels. We need to change it now. Its simple, by harvesting and refining hemp to produce those more than 25,000 products, we will put a lot of farmers back to work. Refiners would require new equipment, putting more people back to work. Will I see this in my life time? Not a chance.
It was bound to happen. The racist elements of the Tea Party Express came to light in brilliant display for all to see. This coming from the founder of the Tea Party itself. After a week of trading insults with the NAACP Williams posted extremely racist and stupid musings on his website, which has since been taken down and Williams has issued an apology. But yet a much bigger concern for me is their collective attitude that only their opinions and needs mean anything. And yet that still isn’t the biggest issues the party must face. The Biggest issue they have as a collective is their own hypocrisy. The Tea Party demands an immigration crack down. Yet a vast majority of the small and medium business owners are these same people clambering for reform. Reform would go a lot smoother if our businesses here would stop hiring illegal immigrants. Then on top of all that these same people are fueling the growing animosity aimed at the Unemployed. Again how many jobs could we free up just by enforcing our borders and making our small and medium businesses hire only American citizens or those with proper work visa’s. Just doing that would bring unemployment below the double-digit mark. Yet I do not see them knocking themselves over to get this done. Besides border control and immigration, they strongly favor tax reform. This is tea party code for, leave Bush’s tax cuts alone, leave our tax shelters alone. Leave our tax loopholes alone. The fact is for the last few decades maybe longer the tax burden has always been on the middle class. Not by sheer number but by percentage of earning paid out in taxes. The Tea Party does not want this to change. In fact they want to pay less taxes than their paying now. Here’s an interesting figure, for every 12 houses valued at 100,000 or less one is in fore closer. For houses valued at a million dollars or more that number is seven to one. Yet these same people who make up the Tea Party are the ones pointing the finger at everyone but themselves. For years they paid virtually no taxes on their true worth, and claim the unemployed are leaching from the system. They Employ all the illegal immigrants the government fails to stop at the border, and point their fingers at us. They carried the majority of the debt when the markets crash and they blame the real tax payers of irresponsibility. Their excessive greed caused the market to crash and again they point their fingers at us. Its time to throw the brakes on this express and send it back to its berth.
Democracy: A system of Government where governing power is derived from the people either by direct referendum a direct democracy or through elected officials a representative democracy. We are obviously fall into the later category. Remember those big banks and hedge funds that got too big to fail? That’s what our government has become. Somewhere the balance of power was taken from the people and kept for the politicians. But the problem in America, we are a diverse and complex society with a million conflicting needs and ideologies. Making it that much harder for us to unite as one and demand that our government start working for the people. In order for that to happen some vital changes must be made. First and foremost. All politicians must respect and uphold the constitution. All current laws will be stricken and a new legal code will be adopted. All new laws will be written and recorded into public record in layman’s terms only. The electoral Voting system must be removed, and all votes will counted. Never will a candidate win popular vote and lose an election. The voice of the people must be heard. Elected representatives will freeze salaries of staff and representative until such time as a balanced budget can be passed. No elected representative or staff will receive free benefits and amenities, such as free health care, pension, travel expenses. In times of crisis any major decision such as declaration of war, must be brought before public referendum. And the Will of the people must be enforced. There are no such things as no bid contracts. All corporations who export American jobs and import foreign goods will pay substantial tariffs. Gas and Oil Companies must immediately comply with the Clean Air and Clean Water acts. The EPA must investigate each case of reported violations of the acts. Financial institutions that misappropriate funds and go under, must be allowed to fail. All tax shelters must be removed, and the wealthy need to start paying their full responsibility. There will be no exploiting loopholes. Any violation of the spirit and intent which the law was written will be considered violating said law, and punishable by the terms of the act. Power to impeach elected officials must rest withing the power of the people, by majority vote. All laws governing our lives and actions must be passed in referendum by the people. All budget issues and Foreign Aid grants must stop immediately. And must not continue until we have fixed our own financial mess. We must close all foreign military bases and bring those soldiers back home and used to secure the borders. We must immediately cut our dependency on Oil and start rebuilding our infrastructure to accommodate new alternatives to crude oil. These steps wont happen unless we the people demand they happen. So how do we get the attention of a government that has turned a deaf ear to us far to often. It’s obvious that voting them out of office and replacing them with other politicians does nothing to change the environment of politics. Armed insurrection is equally useless not to mention completely stupid. We need a plan. So I thought it through and the only weakness the government has that can be exploited is Money. Even in this pitifully weak economy we are keeping an infusion of money pouring into Washington daily. We need to cut off the gravy train. It has to be sudden and it has to be massively organized. But what we need to do is stock up for 2 months, everything you will need to make it through a whole month. Then in one voice we all stop spending. Not a single cent for a whole month. The only way for the people to regain our power guaranteed us in the constitution we have to cut off they money supply, squeeze them out and make them accountable for the way they have run not only our economy into the ground but have destroyed the character of this Nation. The best way to get even with a rich person is to make him a poor person. And the only way to deal with a politician is to grind them into submission. We are the people of the United States, our four fathers never meant for Americans to live under these conditions. We can change it if we’re brave enough to fight for what is right
